How do You Use online therapy to go over DBT Modules?
In online therapy we go over the DBT four main skills modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Through using new techniques like adding in slideshows, fun youtube videos and other technology to liven up the whole process.
"DBT has a modular structure, designed so that it's components can be dropped in and pulled out according to client needs. "(Norman-Nott et al., 2021). That means that these modules each can take a two-week timeframe to teach. Each is taught over two sessions. And then they may also be roleplayed with the counselor in our virtual therapy program and practiced in one-to-one online therapy sessions and/or coached over the phone.
While in individual counselling settings, handouts and slideshows can also be used in teaching clients’ individual skills as a visualization and learning tool over the course of a session (Linehan & Wilks, 2021). These can be easy additions and can help as you bring therapy skills into the week.
Each module teaches skills that have been designed to address a specific skills deficit in a client (Linehan & Wilks, 2021). That means, your therapist may want to start with a module that teaches the skills you need at the time you need them the most, in the beginning.
