Will it ever go away? What happens if I do nothing (e.x. do not go to therapy and do not talk about it)?

Dealing with trauma can be a difficult and overwhelming experience, and it's okay if you're feeling uncertain about what to do next. It's important to remember that you're not alone and that help is available to you. Recent studies have shown that trauma symptoms can persist over time if left untreated. When I was younger, I made the mistake of not seeking help for my trauma, and it only made things worse.

According to research published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress and the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, individuals with untreated PTSD are at a higher risk of developing chronic mental and physical health conditions. Not seeking help for trauma-related symptoms can also negatively impact your daily functioning and quality of life. I know this firsthand because pushing my feelings aside and pretending everything was fine only made things darker and more difficult.

The healing journey from trauma takes time, but with the right support, it's possible. There are many different types of therapy that can be effective in treating trauma, and a therapist can help you find the approach that best fits your needs. Remember that therapy isn't just about talking about the traumatic event; it's also about learning coping mechanisms, managing symptoms, and improving your overall quality of life.

It's completely normal to feel hesitant about seeking help, but taking the first step is essential in the healing process. It's okay to take things at your own pace and find a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Reaching out for support is a courageous step towards healing, and you deserve to feel whole again.

If you ever need support, know that we are here for you. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I am dedicated to helping you through your healing journey. Don't hesitate to reach out and take that first step towards healing.
